Welcome to Computers 4 Seniors!

The Computers 4 Seniors Learning Center at the Federation provides effective training to older adults interested in computer technology.  This enables them to enter the computer era and enhance their lives.

Each class provides every student the individual attention needed to provide maximum opportunity to understand the course material. Classes require a minimum of 5 students and are subject to cancellation depending on registration.

The classroom, with its computers and an instructor, is also available to students one day each week. This practice time is for individuals who are waiting for their own computers. Students who are having difficulty with a lesson may visit to receive additional help and assisted hands-on practice.

The classes are volunteer run. Our volunteers come from the private and public sectors. They are retired business people, teachers, and homemakers. They come to share their expertise, to make a contribution to the community, to meet new people and be part of the team, and to learn new skills.

The Computers 4 Seniors Learning Center
is located on the Federation Campus at 582 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, between Fruitville Road and Bahia Vista.

From I-75, use exit 210. Go west to McIntosh and turn left.
Entrance to the campus is on the right.
From 41, go east on Fruitville to McIntosh and turn right.
Entrance to the campus is on the right.
From Bahia Vista, go north on McIntosh.
Entrance to the campus is on the left.

Park on the turnaround and enter the door on the right side of the main building. Follow the corridor to your left.

Introduction to Computers

This course is an eight week class that teaches the fundamentals of a personal computer using Microsoft Windows 7. It provides hands-on training in the use of a mouse and the skills necessary to use Windows. No prior experience is required. The course is designed to help make the student feel comfortable using a computer.

Students learn about Microsoft Win 7; Microsoft Works Suite 2007; word processing; as well as using the Internet to search the web and send e-mail. Graduates of this course should be able to use a personal computer productively at home.


Smart Phones

This is a one-time 3-hour course that covers the basic use of smart phones like Andriod and iPhone, (Not all types of phones can be covered.) Learn how to navigate various phone functions and get answers to your questions.

This one-time 3-hour course provides the basics on the most popular social network in the world. Learn how to setup an account and get started on friend requests and updating your timeline!

$40 per student.




This 3-hour course covers Skype, which is a voice-over-Internet Protocol service and software application. Skype allows you to make internet calls to friends and family on any smartphone for free.
