“The Jews of Florida” book lecture and signing by author, Marcia Jo Zerivitz

Federation is very excited to welcome Marcia Jo Zerivitz, founding Executive Director of the Jewish Museum of Florida, who will present her book, “Jews of Florida: Centuries of Stories." Zerivitz’s book is considered to be the first comprehensive history of the Jews of Florida from colonial times to the present. Despite not being officially allowed to live in Florida until 1763, Jewish immigrants escaping expulsions and exclusions were among the earliest settlers. It describes how the Jews of Florida have played vital roles in enriching the state while maintaining institutions and firmly establishing Jewish continuity in Florida for future generations. This rich narrative—accompanied by 700 images, most rarely seen—is the result of three-plus decades of grassroots research by Zerivitz, giving readers an incomparable look at the long and crucial history of Jews in Florida.

This event is free and refreshments will be served.
