Impact Theatre Educational Film Short Debut

Free and Open to the Public

Inspired by the legendary relationship between Martin Luther King Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, who together strived for civil rights and social justice, Impact Theatre is a collaborative educational effort connecting area Jewish and African American teens to Holocaust survivors and elder members of the African American community who lived during segregation. This short film is a composite of the inaugural year’s engagement between the students and elders and includes the interviews, the live showcase of the stories, and the experiential trips to the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Newtown Trolley tour. The museum will also exhibit the portraits of the elders painted by thirteen students majoring in art from Booker High School’s Visual and Performing Arts program.

The founding sponsors of Impact Theatre’s inaugural year were The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee, Temple Sinai, and Newtown Alive!
