Jeremiah was one of the major prophets of the Bible, traditionally recognized as writing the Book of Lamentations bemoaning the ruin of Jerusalem. Jeremiah prophesized about the coming defeat of the Jewish people, warning the Jews to no avail of their looming doom, and later joined them in exile after the Babylonian invasion and the destruction of the First Temple. Jeremiah's writings memorialize on of the most important eras in Jewish history.
