How Did American Women Act? Heroism on the Home Front
When the national debate about isolationism and intervention was at its peak, women across America sounded the alarm about the plight of Europe’s Jews. Without a deep and established network of aid organizations, some determined women stepped out of their traditional roles to organize their communities—and even put their lives at risk to rescue victims of Nazi persecution. Join us to examine the heroism and inspirational rescue efforts of women including Dorothy Thompson, Lois Gunden, Martha Sharp, Francis Perkins, Eleanor Roosevelt, Edith Rogers, and Clare Boothe Luce. Explore the mindset and motivations of these American women who dared to act, as well as the tensions between their actions and the inactions of others around them.
